What does ADSL mean?
ADSL Broadband is by far the most popular choice of UK Broadband - if it is available in your area. ADSL is known in full as Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. ADSL uses your existing telephone line for your Broadband connection. It splits the signal into two channels, one for voice communications (telephone calls) and the other for the high speed data connection.

What Equipment do I need to get Started with ADSL Broadband?

BT Telephone Line - you will need to be within 5.5km of an ADSL enabled exchange and will have to have tests carried out on your telephone line to confirm you are able to get ADSL Broadband. If you know that a neighbour or someone in your street has ADSL Broadband, it is likely you will be able to get it.
- ADSL Modem or Router - Most Broadband ISP's will provide you with this equipment, if not take a look at www.dabs.com where you will be able to purchase everything you need at a great price.

MicroFilter for Phonesockets -If you are using your standard phone sockets which you also use for your normal telephone line you will need a micro-filter. This is designed to plug into your phone socket to separate voice from data. If you have more than one phone socket in your house you will need a MicroFilter for every socket.
